Various Types of Carrier Oil as Body Massage Oil
What is Carrier Oil ?
Carrier oil is a base oil mostly derived from vegetable sources and is use to dilute with essential oils. Carrier oils are easily available at the pharmacy shop.
The measurements for the proportion is add 5-6 drops of pure essential oil to 1 tablespoon of carrier oil.
Below are some suggested ‘carrier oils’ that can be used in conjunction with essential oils and easily available. Ideally, get a product that absorbs quickly while leaving the skin soft and silky without a greasy residue. These essential oils are combined with the massage carrier oils to provide a variety of aromatherapy fragrances.
Almond Oil
Almond oil is mild and lightweight. It contains Vitamin D is a good emollient (softening and soothing to the skin) and helps the skin to balance its loss and absorption of moisture.
This oil is one of the most popular of the carrier oils used in aromatherapy since it is non-greasy, easily absorbed by the skin, smooth and it is good for nourishing the skin. This oil is suitable for most skin types, especially for dry skin.
The only setback for almond oil is that is can’t be used on people with nut allergies.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil can keep longer than most oils and it prevents oxidization of essential oil.Jojoba is also one of a popular oil to used as a carrier oil in aromatherapy as it penetrates the skin easily and is suitable for all skin types.
Jojoba is light, rich in vitamin E which helps especially for skin that is prematurely aged, dry, sensitive or inflamed.
Hazelnut Oil
Hazelnut oil is fine in texture, it has great moisturizing properties and help to tone and tighten the skin. Penetrates the skin very easily and is deeply nourishing. Hazelnut is rich in protein, unsaturated fat and vitamin B.
The only setback for hazelnut oil is that is can’t be used on people with nut allergies.
Olive Oil
Olive Oil has a strong smell, which will likely be blended with any essential oil. It contains minerals and vitamins E which suitable for all skin types.
This oil has high viscosity base (thick and gluey) and it is not easily absorb by the skin.
Wheat germ Oil
Wheat germ Oil has a strong smell and slightly sticky. Wheat germ oil is said to promote a smoother skin, repairing sun damage, assist in reducing scar tissue and stretch marks. Wheat germ contains a high vitamin E and essential fatty acids.
This carrier oil is said to stimulate tissue regeneration and is often added to other blends because of its antioxidant properties.
Avocado Oil
Avocado Oil has emollient properties (softening and soothing to the skin) and heavy. It is high in monounsaturated fats and Vitamin A, B,D,E and good for dry or aging and sensitive skins
It is useful when treating sun or climate damaged skin and helps with the regenerating of the skin and sun protection.
It is easily absorbed into the skin but this oil is thick and aroma.
Grape Seed Oil
Grape seed oil is known to reduce the scar of stretch marks. It is light, non-greasy and thin which is good for oily skin. It contains high linoleic acid, fatty acid which is essential for the skin, Vitamin E and minerals which helps in skin moisturizing.
Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil contains high Vitamin E, full of saturated fats and suitable for all skin types, especially dry and cracked. The oil is thick and does not have any side effects on the skin.
Coconut oil helps in preventing premature aging and treating various skin problems due to its antioxidant properties.
